Box Break: 2008 Upper Deck Goudey Baseball

feature photo

Price: $84.00

Breakdown: 18 packs per box, 8 cards per pack. Each box contains seven Goudey 1934 Size Parallels, one memorabilia card and one autographed card on average. Inserted one per case are Original Goudey Baseball Buyback Cards and Sports Royalty Autographs. Also find Yankee stadium Legacy inserts randomly inserted.

With a lot of packs to open, a great design, and multiple chase sub-sets, this box, even without any “huge” hits, didn’t disappoint.  Although, it certainly would have been nice to pull one of those Original Buybacks or a Sports Royalty Auto!

goudey-iwamura-gu.jpgWhen opening, I actually missed the first hit, a J.R. Towles Goudey Graphs auto. The signature is so small that I didn’t even notice it on the first pass through. Having gone back through the cards about half-way through the box, I noticed it, and love the fact that the autographs are on-card! I also like that Upper Deck didn’t make the autograph set look like a parallel, but rather a base card with an autograph.

My second hit was an Akinori Iwamura Goudey Memorabilia Game-used jersey. Once again, it looks like the base card but with a swatch inserted.

Despite getting some lesser names as my hits, I was happy to get a Kosuke Fukudome Rookie Card (an actual true rookie card and not just one that’s called a rookie card even though he’s had cards in products for years). I don’t know what the market is for these, but of the “rookie cards” in the set, it’s certainly the one to pull.
