Box Break: 2008 Press Pass Legends Football

feature photo

Price: $115

Breakdown: Each box contains three mini-boxes, 6 packs per mini, 5 cards per pack. Each pack includes one sequentially numbered parallel. Each box contains five autographs and one game-used jersey card.

Having already busted one mini of this product, I couldn’t wait for this full box to come in the mail from Blowout Cards. Let me start off by saying that I love the nice clean, classic design of the base cards. The black borders and black & white backgrounds really make the photos pop! I also love the mix of rookies and legends including the likes of Brett Favre, Jimmy Johnson and Vince Dooley. Finally, even when the pack doesn’t contain the hit, it’s nice to get a numbered parallel at least. There’s no empty feeling when opening a single pack.

Now onto the breaks:

Mini #1: This mini-box certainly disappointed a bit. Not only was it the one containing the jersey card, an Early Doucet Saturday Swatches, but the auto hit was nothing more than a dreaded redemption. What’s worse is it’s a redemption for a guy who chose basketball over football, none other than a Charlie Ward Legendary Legacy Autographs. At least it can only get better from here.

Mini #2: My first hit into this box I get the feeling that somebody is playing a cruel trick on me. Once again, one of my hits is that same basketball player – a Saturday Signatures Charlie Ward (odd that this one is not a redemption – go figure). My second hit was a Saturday Signatures Donnie Avery. Not too bad there, but this box sure is making me cringe with every pack I open.

Mini #3: Ahh, finally, I see from the back I’ve gotten a decent hit with a Dennis Dixon All Conference Autograph #216/145–nice pull. I turn it over to see it’s an even nicer pull than I first realized, as he signed it “Droop.” I don’t know the stated print-runs just yet of the nickname autos, but I know that this pull certainly turned my box around! The final autograph is also a decent one, a Chris Long All Conference Autograph #64/99. This mini was certainly the box-saver.

Among the numbered parallels are:

  • Legends #/999: Randy Gradishar, Jimmy Johnson, Troy Aikman, George Blanda, Hershel Walker, and Steve Young
  • Rookies #/999: Matt Flynn, Tashard Choice, Darren McFadden, and Sedrick Ellis
  • Legends #/499: Roger Craig, Vince Dooley, Ken Stabler, Craig Morton
  • Rookies #/499: Early Doucet, DeSean Jackson
  • Rookie #/99: Matt Flynn (99/99)
  • Legend #/25: Earl Campbell

Overall, this was a great product to break! With six total hits and a numbered parallel in every pack, each pack is opened with anticipation. Plus, the three mini-boxes make it affordable for those who can’t spend $100+ on a full box. I didn’t hit any of the coveted dual autos, but, despite two of my hits being Charlie Ward, I’m very happy with this break, and wouldn’t hesitate to throw my money at this product again!
